Bloomfield Animal Shelter Seeks Home For ‘Longest Resident Cat’

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Russel the feline has a sad claim to fame. He’s now the “longest resident cat” at the Bloomfield Animal Shelter.
On Monday, the shelter posted a call for help finding Russel an adopter or rescue. Staff said that he “hasn’t had any interest,” and that his FIV-positive status may be turning people away from a “sweet, friendly, laid-back guy.”

“Oh Russel. It’s presumed that Russel once belonged to someone, and somehow recently found himself on the streets to fend for himself. A local resident who fed him for a short time contacted us and we took him in. Russel isn’t a feral cat, and deserves to be loved inside of a home. Unfortunately, Russel tested positive for FIV, which he most likely recently contracted while on the streets. He is approximately 4 to 5 years-old, now UTD on vaccines, neutered, dewormed, and received flea and tick treatment. Russel is very shy when you first meet him. After introductions he LOVES to be petted and even lets you hold him. He’s a laid-back guy who would love a home with an experienced adopter. He doesn’t seem to mind other cats. Meet him during daily adoption hours Mon-Fri 2pm-5pm, Wed 2pm-6pm, Sat-Sun 1pm-5pm.”
