Bloomfield Buys 4 Electric Cars: ‘Investment In Clean Energy’

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield has made another investment in “clean energy,” town officials announced Monday.

The municipality recently bought four, new Chevy Bolts for $128,760. The electric-powered vehicles were purchased with funding from the capital budget and the water utility fund, township officials said.

The new vehicles will be put to good use by construction code officials and water meter personnel, whose duties require making many stops, officials said.

Each vehicle has a range of 300 miles, and will be charged at the township’s vehicle charging stations, which were installed in the municipal parking lot last summer. Six more stations are due to be installed in the coming months: three will be at the municipal parking lot and three will be at Glenwood Garage.

“With so many exciting and time-consuming water infrastructure improvement projects taking place in town, our municipal employees needed reliable transportation, and we are proud to make what is both a fiscally and environmentally responsible investment with these electric vehicles,” Mayor Michael Venezia said.”

“Our charging stations mark a complementary investment in clean energy, and we encourage all members of the public with electric vehicles to charge them right here in Bloomfield,” Venezia said.
