Bloomfield ‘Food Tour’ Returns: See Participating Restaurants

The food-filled trek through Bloomfield Center's business district will include a guided experience with stops at local restaurants.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — After a delicious first event in late June, the Bloomfield Center Alliance (BCA) will present its second “Food Tour” from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5.

According to a news release from the BCA, the encore tour will feature a new crop of local food destinations from the inaugural event, which took place in June.

The food-filled trek through Bloomfield Center’s business district will include a guided experience with stops for scrumptious samples at several restaurants. The event will provide the opportunity for guests to connect with chefs and owners and feature cuisine from locales such as Ethiopia, Cuba and Mexico. A guided tour will provide information on the history and plans for the area, along with tips on shopping for goods and services, living, and food in the center.

The Oct. 5 Food Tour will begin and end at Bloomfield’s historic Lackawanna Train Station and involve short walks between restaurants. Participating restaurants in this tour include: Injera Ethiopian Cuisine, El Toro Loco, Apna Punjab Indian Cuisine, State Street Grill, Havana Sandwich Café, and BGR – Burgers Grilled Right.

“The Food Tour of Bloomfield Center in June was such a beautiful experience,” BCA Director Ollyn Lettman said. “We have so many food entrepreneurs in our small Center and it was great for the guests to get to engage with them and sample their specialties. This second event will showcase completely new entrepreneurs and further solidify Bloomfield Center’s reputation as a multi-ethnic, creative, and walkable food scene.”

Lettman pointed out that one of the restaurants participating on this tour – Ethiopian restaurant Injera – opened after last June’s event.

“Others like Havana Sandwich Café have been part of our district for several years,” Lettman said.

George Lugo, owner of Havana Sandwich Café, said that he was excited to show people some of their staple dishes, including empanadas, Cuban sandwiches and Cuban pot roast.

“We know a lot of people probably pass by on Bloomfield Avenue so we’re excited for this opportunity for them to stop and see the kind of food, décor, and service we offer,” Lugo said.
