BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A man was charged with robbery after he allegedly got into a scuffle with the manager of a Bloomfield liquor store last week, authorities said.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, officers responded to Buy Rite Liquors on Lackawanna Plaza on Saturday after getting a report about an accused shoplifter fighting with the store manager.

Police said the incident began when a 23-year-old Bloomfield man allegedly concealed a bottle of liquor and attempted to leave the store without paying.

The store manager attempted to stop the man, who resisted and “used force” against him, police said.

Officers arrested the suspected shoplifter and charged him with robbery. The manager was transported to Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville with minor injuries, authorities said.
