Bloomfield Obituary: John Muller

The 26-year-old Bloomfield resident received awards for his writing while at Montclair State University.

Glen Ridge resident John Muller passed away on Oct. 18.

He was 26-years-old.

“John Jurgen Henry Muller V, 26, of Glen Ridge, N.J., died suddenly on October 18, 2015.

“Born in Glen Ridge, Johnny lived in Bloomfield and attended Demarest Elementary School, where he enjoyed soccer and playing the trombone. He moved to Glen Ridge 13 years ago and graduated from Glen Ridge High School. Johnny received a B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Montclair State University, where he majored in English. He received several awards for his writing while at Montclair State. He was pursuing an M.F.A. in creative writing at Rutgers University, Newark. He also taught English as an adjunct faculty member. Johnny had a great love of writing and devoured contemporary fiction voraciously.

“For the past five years, Johnny was very active in local A.A. groups. He was a dynamic presence at meetings, and during his short time with us, touched the lives of many people.

“Johnny is survived by his parents, John J. H. Muller IV and Mi-Song Chun, his grandmother, Young Sook Park, aunts Elizabeth Muller, Jane Muller, and Hazel Min, uncles Sunil Chacko and Kyung Min Chun, and cousins.

“In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Essex County Mental Health Association, 33 S. Fullerton Avenue, Montclair NJ, or to a scholarship fund, which is pending.”
