Bloomfield Obituary: Michael Bonomo, Local Principal and Teacher
The former Essex County resident was also the founder and director of the Boy's and Girl's Club of Bloomfield.

Former Bloomfield resident Michael Bonomo passed away on Feb. 25.

“Michael G. Bonomo, 77, of East Hanover beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, passed away on Thursday February 25, 2016, in the Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, N.J.

“Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 1, from 4-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the Megaro Memorial Home 503 Union Ave., in Belleville, on Wednesday, March 2, at 9:30 a.m. There will be a funeral Mass in St Lucy’s Church in Newark at 11 a.m. followed by a blessing in St Rose of Lima Church in East Hanover at 12:30 p.m. Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
“Michael was born in Newark and lived in Belleville and Bloomfield before moving to East Hanover where he resided for 48 years. He was a graduate of William Paterson State receiving his Masters Degree from Seton Hall University in 1976.

“Michael retired from the Bloomfield Board of Education as principal of Bloomfield Middle School prior to that he was an Art Teacher and Vice Principal at Bloomfield South Middle School. He was the founder and director of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Bloomfield, Co-Chairperson of the East Hanover Police Vest Program and was also a Girls Softball coach in East Hanover.
“Michael was the beloved husband of the late Marie R. (nee Muro) Bonomo, dear father of Mary Jo Jachym and her husband John and Michele Stefan and her husband Dr. Aaron. He was grandfather of John Michael, Colin, Thomas Jae, Owen, and Tristan and is survived by many friends and family.
“He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mildred (nee Bongo) Bonomo and brother James Bonomo.
“In lieu of flowers, contributions to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be appreciated.”
