Bloomfield Police Warn of Phone Scam

Swindlers claim to be from PSE&G and IRS.

Bloomfield Police have warned residents that telephone scammers claiming to be employees of PSE&G or the IRS are attempting to extract money from victims over the phone.

Police said that the con artists tell victims they need to pay their bills immediately with a Paypal Moneypak card. In a statement, police stressed that neither the utility company nor the Federal agency accept that manner of payment.

Police ask residents to contact the department at 973-680-4141 if callers attempt to trick them into making bonus payments. To verify callers claiming to be from the IRS, call the IRS Treasury Inspector at 800-366-4484.
