Bloomfield resident Ted Glick is going to be burning a lot of calories next week.
As part of a nationwide climate change action, Glick will be riding his bike from New York to Washington D.C. as part of the Climate Ride, a national event that aims to provide financial support and raise awareness of the need for climate change action while strengthening its network of climate action supporters through the shared experience of the ride.
This is the second year Glick has undertaken the 300-mile five day ride for his organization, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network.

While he’s a regular cyclist, the long-distance trip presented a test to his abilities.
“It was definitely a mental and a physical challenge to hang in there,” Glick said. “It helped to do it with a bunch of different people. That made a difference for sure.”

Glick and the other 199 riders raised $2,400 to take part in the ride. The funds support the ride and are directed to climate action groups.
“It shows that there are a lot of people willing to ride 300 miles in five days,” Glick said. We’re generating a spirit of action on this issue.”
The ride starts on Saturday and lasts until Sept. 25.
Editor's note: The original headline (which is unfortunately reflected in the URL) reported that Glick is riding 500 miles. He is actually riding 300. I was listening to the Proclaimers while writing this article, which led to an unfortunate typo. I regret the error and to ever listening to the Proclaimers.
