Bloomfield Students Plant Flags At HS For Memorial Day (VIDEO)

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Students at Bloomfield High School recently honored Memorial Day by planting U.S. flags on the front lawn of the school in tribute to fallen soldiers.

The event was organized by Peggy Sullivan, a history teacher at the high school. Watch the video below.

“I want the students to know that Memorial Day is more than barbecues,” Sullivan said.

CLOSURES, GARBAGE, PARKING

The Township of Bloomfield Public Works & Park Maintenance department recently released updates about closures, garbage/recycling and parking in the township for Memorial Day.

Officials said that in observance of the Memorial Day holiday, the Department of Public Works and Parks will be closed on Monday, May 31.

The following schedule changes will be made due to the holiday:

• On Monday, May 31 there will be no garbage pickup. The next garbage day will be on Thursday, June 3. There will be no other changes to the garbage schedule for the week.
• Cardboard/ Mixed Paper Recycling will not be picked up on Monday May 31. However it will be picked up on Tuesday. There will be no other changes to the recycling schedule for the week.
• There will be no biodegradable bag pick up on Monday May 31. We anticipate collecting them on Tuesday, if they are not picked up, please leave them at the curb and we will get them Wednesday. There will be no other changes to the collection schedule for the week.
• The Recycling Depot, located here at 230 Grove Street, will be open on Saturday, May 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Please note, due to the holidays alternate side of the street parking regulations will NOT be enforced Monday May 31.
• Metal will be picked up on Tuesday June 1. Please call our office before 3 p.m. on Friday May 28 to schedule a pick up.
