Bloomfield Teens Honored: Basketball, Wrestling, Bowling
The Essex County freeholders congratulated some high-performing student-athletes from Bloomfield's public schools.
BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Essex County freeholders recently congratulated some high-performing student athletes from Bloomfield’s public schools with a series of commendations.

During its Wednesday, April 10, 2019, meeting at Bloomfield Town Hall the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored the Bloomfield High School Girls Basketball Team for winning the 2019 NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 State Championship.
The Commendation was sponsored and presented by District 5 Freeholder Carlos Pomares of Bloomfield, along with Freeholder President Brendan Gill of Montclair. Freeholder Pomares shared how proud he and the Board were of the team for successfully completing the season, and bringing the championship title to Bloomfield.

Coach Zac Dearwater accepted the Commendation on behalf of the team and thanked the Freeholders for their support. Senior Captain Sarah Edmond also spoke before the crowd of supporters and thanked her teammates, her coach, and the Freeholders for the honor of being recognized in their hometown.
The Bloomfield High School Basketball Team won the 2019 NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 State Championship after defeating Kearny High School (50-36) in the first round and Livingston High School (46-42) in the 2nd round. In the semifinals they defeated East Orange High School (33-30) and in the finals they defeated Morristown High School (43-38) to win the state championship. They finished the season with a final record of 19-8.
The team also had players who were recognized for their great individual seasons. Sarah Edmond and Samantha Columna were named to the All-Conference Honors Liberty Division 1st team. Chiara Hilario was named to the 2nd team, and Camrynn Referente and Lucy Heyman were honorable mention. Samantha Columna also made the All-Group 4 3rd Team.
The team is comprised of the following members: Seniors: Camrynn Referente, Sarah Edmond, Lara Rios, Kaitlynn Martinez; Juniors: Samantha Columna, Gina Perrotta, Mia Lopez; Sophomores: Asiyah Edmond, Hannah Gulley, Casey Dolan, Melina Hidalgo; and Freshmen: Ashley Martinez, Chiara Hilario, Lucy Heyman, and Aliyah Sanchez.
The team was coached by Head Coach Zac Dearwater, Assistant Coaches Nicole Pacicco, Robert Finlay and Casey Newman. During the team’s successful year, Coach Dearwater was named the Sideline Chatter Essex County Girls Coach of the Year, and the NJ.Com Super Essex Conference Girls Coach of the Year.

WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP
During its Wednesday, April 10, 2019 meeting at Bloomfield Town Hall the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Kevin Adorno of the Bloomfield High School Wrestling Team for winning the 2019 District 9 Wrestling Championship for the 145 lb. Weight Class.
The Commendation was sponsored by District 5 Freeholder Carlos Pomares of Bloomfield, along with Freeholder President Brendan Gill of Montclair. Freeholder Pomares shared how proud he and the Board were of Kevin for the success he had during his time at Bloomfield High School, and specifically for his stellar senior season.
Kevin Adorno came through Bloomfield Township’s recreation program, where he was very successful as a youth wrestler. As a freshman in high school, he wrestled 24 varsity matches and won 12 of them in a highly competitive weight and earned a varsity letter as a freshman.
In the last 2 years at Bloomfield High School, he has registered 49 wins and 8 losses. His senior campaign included a 3rd place finish at the Kearney Tournament, a 3rd place finish in the Essex County Tournament, a 1st Place finish in District 9 tournament, and a 5th place finish in the Region 3 tournament. He finished the season with 34 wins and 6 losses, including 16 pins, and was selected 2nd Team All-League in the Liberty Division.
Friends, teammates, members of the Bloomfield Board of Education, and members of the Bloomfield Town Council were all on hand to wish Kevin well and congratulate him on his great season.

BOWLING CHAMPIONS
During its Wednesday, April 10, 2019, meeting at Bloomfield Town Hall the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders honored Shannon Broadfoot and Bryan Fuscarino of the Bloomfield High School Girls and Boys Bowling Teams. Shannon won the 2019 Essex County Girls Individual Bowling Championship, and Bryan won the 2019 Essex County Boys Individual Bowling Championship.
The Commendations were sponsored by District 5 Freeholder Carlos Pomares of Bloomfield and Freeholder President Brendan Gill of Montclair. Freeholder Pomares shared how proud he and the Board were for both student athletes, and for the success they had in bringing county championships to Bloomfield High School.
Shannon Broadfoot is a junior and 3-year varsity starter on the Bloomfield High School Girls Bowling Team. She recently won the 2019 Essex County Girls Individual Bowling Championship, and has helped the team place as Super Essex Conference (SEC) Team Champions for 2 consecutive years. She was named Bloomfield High School’s Co-Athlete of the Month for February 2019 with a GPA of 3.71. Her class rank is 91, placing her in the top 20% of her graduating class.
She also gives back to her community as a member of the Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization, volunteers at Kids Corner’s after school care program, and is a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church also in Bloomfield.
Bryan James Fuscarino, also a junior at Bloomfield High School, is a third generation bowler in the Fuscarino family. He started bowling at the age of six in a Saturday league, fell in love with the sport, and is currently the Captain of the Bloomfield High School Boys Varsity Team. He is the grandson of Alfred Fuscarino, a Bergen County Hall of Famer and World War II Veteran. After graduation, he plans to attend William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, and continue bowling on the collegiate level.
In addition to winning the 2019 Essex County Boys Individual Bowling Championship, he has won several junior bowling tournaments and continues to bowl in the high school Saturday league, as well as a mixed nuts league on Wednesday nights. He participated in the Pepsi Challenge Bowling Tournament, and also participates in a weekly tournament held at Lodi Lanes called King of the Hill, in hopes of winning scholarship money for college. Although unsanctioned, he is proud to have achieved a perfect game.
Family, friends, members of the Bloomfield Board of Education, and members of the Bloomfield Town Council were all on hand to wish Shannon and Bryan well and congratulate them on their successful seasons.
