Couple Leaving Bloomfield Restaurant Hit By Car, Husband Dies: PD

A car hit a Union resident and his wife as they were leaving a restaurant in Bloomfield, police said.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A Union resident was killed and his wife was critically injured after a car hit them as they were leaving a restaurant in Bloomfield on Saturday, authorities said.

Anthony Manochio, 83, and his wife, who was not named in an initial statement, were crossing the street after leaving a restaurant on Bloomfield Avenue when a Pathfinder driven by a 44-year-old man struck them, police said.

Emergency responders transported the pair to University Hospital in Newark with critical injuries. Manochio was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:12 p.m. according to a joint statement from the Essex County’s Prosecutor’s Office and the Bloomfield Public Safety Department.

Manochio’s wife remains hospitalized, authorities said Monday.

No charges have been filed against the driver, who remained at the scene, police said.
