BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A cat that survived a harrowing journey underneath the hood of a car is officially on the mend. And don’t worry – he’s being super-spoiled in the meanwhile, the Bloomfield Animal Shelter says.

Earlier in May, a driver got a shock when they parked their car in Bloomfield and found a cat under the hood. The motorist said they weren't sure how long the cat was inside, and only drove locally in Bloomfield and Newark.

Staff at the Bloomfield shelter got the feline emergency medical care; he suffered some bumps and bruises and a broken jaw.

The cat is an adult neutered male and "doesn't appear to be feral at all," the shelter added. Read More: Cat Survives Ride Underneath Hood Of Car, Found In Bloomfield

Since then, the shelter has been trying to find a possible owner, to no avail. There’s good news for the feline, however, who has since been named “Jaws” and undergone successful reconstructive surgery.

Shelter manager Jaclyn Mendyk offered Patch the following update on Tuesday:

“He is recovering well and not available for adoption just yet. We were never contacted by a possible owner, and expect that he will be made available for adoption once medically cleared. The public has been extremely kind and supportive after learning of his story. We are grateful for the nonprofit group, Supporters of the Bloomfield Animal Shelter, for sponsoring his emergency care and to those who donated towards this extraordinary expense, as well as those who have donated specialty foods for him.”
