Newark Cops Mourn Bloomfield Man’s Sudden Death

Newark detective Tyrell Wheeler, a Bloomfield resident, husband and father, passed away. No foul play is suspected, police say.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Newark police and the Bloomfield community is mourning the passing of a decorated veteran detective, Tyrell Wheeler, 33.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, Wheeler was a Bloomfield resident, husband and father of two. He was a decorated member of the department who started his career in 2007, and worked in the department’s elite Special Enforcement Bureau at the time of his death.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that it is investigating the circumstances to his death; nothing is considered suspicious at this time, authorities said.

“The department mourns Wheeler’s unexpected and unanticipated death,” Newark police stated in a release. “Our prayers and wishes go out to his family members, as we all grieve his loss.”
