Retired Bloomfield Police Chief Dies, Leaves Legacy Of Service

The Bloomfield Police Department offered a message of condolence for John "Jack" McNiff, who passed away at the age of 81.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — A retired police chief in Bloomfield has passed away, leaving a legacy of service to his community behind, local authorities announced last week.

The Bloomfield Police Department released a message of condolence for retired police chief John “Jack” McNiff, who died on Dec. 31 at the age of 81.

The BPD wrote:

“Chief McNiff joined the Bloomfield Police Department in 1965. He was promoted to sergeant in 1970, lieutenant in 1977, captain in 1982 and finally, chief of department in 1986. He would hold this position until his retirement in 2005. We send our deepest condolences to Wayne Police Chief Jack McNiff and Wayne Police Lt. Michael McNiff on the death of their father as well all friends and family.”
