With COVID-19 spreading throughout our world schools have had to approach education in a new light. Enter in Remote Learning. The teachers of St. Thomas the Apostle School in Bloomfield, NJ were made for this. With a full integration currently of Google Classroom in grades Pk-3 through 8th, the students and teachers were ready for anything.

In preparation of emergency closings the principal, Mr. Michael Petrillo M.Ed, surveyed families about their access to WiFi on a regular level, and the access of devices in their households. Any family who showed an issue with a device or with WiFi was given other options to solve this emergency.

For a few days now the school has been working completely remotely with their students. This has been seen in a variety of ways, through Zoom conferencing, Google Meet, Email, or simply the teacher posting the mapped out plans on the front of the Google Classroom for the students to complete. The students have been working diligently, as grades are being kept, attendance is taken throughout the day, and assessments are given. Teachers use a certain amount of instruction time and time for the students to complete their assignments. Positive feedback has been seen around the school community of the efforts of the school administration and the faculty/staff. The school prides itself on the efforts of everyone, and continues to give updates to the families on a regular basis.
