Two Men Arrested After Allegedly Stealing Charity Coin Jars from Restaurant

Accused thieves also allegedly had a stolen iPhone and a tablet.

Police say two men robbed coin collection jars containing money meant for the Lukemia & Lymphoma Society from a Broad Street restaurant.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, off-duty Glen Ridge Police Sergeant Carr reportedly saw Paul DeCaito, 44, of Belleville and Carl Capone Jr., 51, of Bloomfield take the coin containers and run out of the restaurant.

Carr reportedly chased them out of the restaurant. In their attempt to get away, the men reportedly crossed paths with Bloomfield Police Officer Joseph Corio, who was working a traffic detail nearby. Bloomfield Officer Thomas Schmittler joined Corio and they arrested DeCaito and Capone and charged them with theft and receiving stolen property.
