6,000 Mail-In Ballots Left To Be Counted In Somerset County

Election Day has come and gone, yet there are still thousands of ballots left to be counted in Somerset County.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Election Day has come and gone, yet there are still thousands of ballots left to be counted in Somerset County.

In Somerset County, 176,918 ballots were counted as of Friday night out of 256,911 registered voters.

As of Monday morning, there are about 6,000 vote-by-mail ballots left to be counted and then thousands of provisional ballots will be counted.

Official results are not expected to be certified until Nov. 20.

The remaining ballots could make a difference in some races such as the seat for the 7th Congressional District.

As of Monday morning, less than 5,000 votes stand between Democratic incumbent Tom Malinowski and Republican challenger Tom Kean Jr. for the congressional seat. Read More: Malinowski Remains Ahead Over Kean In District 7 Race

Somerset County isn't the only county in New Jersey still counting. Union County reported 234,368 ballots were counted as of Sunday out of 372,854 registered voters.

Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi said there were still between 25,000 and 30,000 ballots left including provisional ballots and hand count ballots as of Monday morning.

Of those ballots, Rajoppi said she expects to have 10,000 counted by Monday afternoon when an updated tally will be shared online at unioncountyvotes.com.
