Arrangements Set For Bridgewater Man, Teacher Who Died In Crash With State Trooper
Larry Helwig was a retired physical education teacher, football, wrestling and golf coach at Manville, Bernardsville and Sayreville BOE.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Funeral arrangements have been set for Larry Helwig, 72, of Bridgewater who was killed in a car crash with a state trooper last weekend while on his way to church, and authorities have yet to reveal the specific circumstances involved in the accident.
Helwig was a retired physical education teacher, football, wrestling and golf coach at Manville, Bernardsville, and then Sayreville Board of Education.
Viewing will be held Thursday, April 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. with a service at 7:30 p.m. at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 US Highway 202 South, Branchburg.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 3 Haytown Rd, Lebanon. Committal will be private.

Larry Helwig, 72, of Bridgewater passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017. He was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Bridgewater for the last 44 years.
Larry was a 1966 graduate of East Stroudsburg State College, where he was a member of the undefeated football team, which was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the golf team at ESSC.
Helwig was a retired physical education teacher, football, wrestling and golf coach at Manville, Bernardsville, and then Sayreville Board of Education.
Larry was an avid golfer, fisherman, jokester and an antique car enthusiast. He was a member of the Manville/Somerville Elks and multiple athletic organizations. He enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marcella and Gerald Helwig, and his beloved wife of 40 years Marti.
Surviving are his dear son Larry and wife Kathy of Pocono Pines, Pennsylvaia; his loving daughter, Amy Kromer, of Effort, Pennsylvania; three wonderful brothers: Thomas and wife Cecelia of Spring Grove, Pennsyvlvania, Donald and wife Diane of Hanover, Pennsylvania and Marty and wife Lynne of Hanover, Pennsylvania, two wonderful sisters, Geraldine "Bunny" Ernst of Mesherryston, Pennsylvania and Catherine "Kitty" and husband Jim Clark of Hanover, Pennsylvania; five cherished grandchildren, Sunshine, Jeremy, Starrlee, Zane and Cooper; two adored great-grandchildren, Nicolette and Willow and his loving companion Jane Roxbury of Lebanon.
