Black Bear Seen Roaming Near Route 202 In Raritan

Numerous calls reported a black bear roaming along Route 202 in Raritan near the Bridgewater border on Wednesday morning.

RARITAN, NJ — A black bear has been spotted roaming along Route 202 on the Raritan and Bridgewater border on Wednesday morning.

Raritan Police Sgt. Everett Holt said numerous calls from 8:45 a.m. to about 10:45 a.m. reported a black bear seen at various locations bordering both sides of Route 202 along the Janssen and Ortho properties.

The last sighting was behind John F Goellner Drive near the Stonebridge property.

"While Black Bear sightings are very rare in Raritan Borough, they are not uncommon," said Holt. "We ask the public to not approach the bear if they see it and allow it to go along its way as it travels through the borough."
