Blue Wave Hits Somerset County, Democrats Led Most Town Elections: Unofficial Results
Even in towns such as Bridgewater, which has been led by Republicans for decades, voters chose Democrats in the 2025 general election.
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ ? While all eyes were on the New Jersey gubernatorial race, Democrats also took the lead in Somerset County in the general election, according to unofficial results.
According to Somerset County, 100 percent of the districts have reported. However, these results remain unofficial until all mail-in and provisional ballots are counted.

Democrats took a lead across the board for all countywide seats, including Sheriff, Surrogate, and County Commissioner.
Democrat Melonie Marano had 63,952 votes over Republican Nick Cuozzo with 48,498 votes, and Democrat Elizabeth Garner had 73,949 votes over Michelle Mayorga with 53,649 votes for the two Commissioner seats.

Democratic incumbent Darrin Russo had 65,378 votes over Republican challenger Michael Manochio with 47,430 for Sheriff.
Democratic incumbent Bernice "Tina" Jalloh had 63,354 votes over Republican Chris Corsini with 48,164 for Somerset County Surrogate.
Local Races
Looking at the local level, Democrats also took the lead in 11 of the 21 Somerset County towns. Republicans led in eight towns, and one town, Raritan, split the vote. North Plainfield didn't have any local races this election.
The Democratic led towns included Bernards Township, Bound Brook, Bridgewater, Franklin, Hillsborough, Manville, Millstone, Montgomery, Rocky Hill, Somerville, and South Bound Brook.
Republicans led in towns including Bedminster, Bernardsville, Branchburg, Far Hills, Green Brook, Peapack-Gladstone, Warren, and Watchung.
Raritan Borough saw a split with one Republican and one Democrat leading.
Many towns that led with blue were traditionally Republican led for many years, including Bernards, Bridgewater, and Hillsborough.
Bridgewater, in particular, has been Republican controlled for decades.
The vote tallies, however, do not represent the final election outcome. Vote totals will remain unofficial until all mail-in and provisional ballots are counted. A final certification of votes will be on Nov. 19.
