Boy Scout Troop 90 Make a Difference at Midland

Boy Scout Troop 90 of Branchburg, NJ make volunteering in the community a priority, especially at Midland.

Boy Scout Troop 90 of Branchburg, NJ make volunteering in the community a priority. Over the years, they have made a reputation for themselves at Midland for always going above and beyond.

On May 22, Troop 90 once again volunteered at Midland’s annual Move for Midland community-wide fundraising event. The team were instrumental in both the set-up and clean-up for the event which hosted more than 300 attendees outdoors.

“They are an amazing group and we were so grateful and fortunate to have their help,” says Move for Midland Volunteer Coordinator, Irene Francis. “The boys stepped up and took the lead with direction from their Scoutmaster, Dan McDonald. In a short period of time, they had the tents up, supplies placed at every station, and even assisted with decorating each of the tents. They were like machines!”

Then a few short weeks later, on June 12, the group returned to landscape and weed Midland campus. The boys pulled more than 17 bags full of weeds and even had fun doing it!
“We had a great turnout,” says Mr. McDonald, Scoutmaster of Troop 90. “Many hands made light work of the job.”

“I'm proudest of our older scouts,” he adds. “I reminded them that they needed to lead by example. They rose to the occasion, and kept the whole crew focused on the task. That's the kind of on-the-ground leadership experience they'll use when they start running their own service projects for Eagle Scout.”
