Bridgewater Cancels Halloween Trick Or Treat Event Due To COVID

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater Township's Trick or Treat event held annually at the municipal complex has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Wells Winegar, Bridgewater Spokesman, said the township is currently looking to host an alternative event that offers more space and would adhere to social distancing protocols.

The township event had been held annually for years at the township complex which would draw hundreds of people in costume to trick or treat.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Sept. 9 that Halloween should proceed as planned in New Jersey amid the coronavirus crisis, but there will be protocols in place to protect against a possible outbreak. Read More: Gov. Murphy: Halloween In NJ Can Proceed Amid Coronavirus Crisis

"Obviously it's not going to be a normal Halloween, so we're going to have to do things very carefully," Murphy said.

Murphy said protocols will be in place, such as mask-wearing and social distancing, but the state has not released anything yet.
