Bridgewater-Raritan Schools Plan To Reopen Full-Time In September
Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas Ficarra said the district is planning for full 5 days a week of in-person instruction for September.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — This past school year has been challenging to say the least amid the pandemic. Yet there looks to be some good news for students and parents come September as the Bridgewater-Raritan school district plans for a full return.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Thomas Ficarra sent a letter to parents last week saying the district is planning for full 5 days a week of in-person instruction under the current guidelines for September.
Ficarra has asked all district principals to develop a full-day, 5 days a week schedule at the current social distancing guidelines.

"The principals are analyzing the additional needs not currently available. These needs will be identified and acquired over the next few months," said Ficarra.
The most recent change in CDC guidance includes reducing social distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet. However, Ficarra said this change still brings challenges for providing lunch.

"Although the classroom social distancing has been reduced from 6 feet to 3 feet, the guidance for lunches remains at 6 feet. Principals are examining staffing needs, physical plant needs, as well as equipment needs. This will enable students and staff to have a safe lunch experience while eating without a mask," said Ficarra.
A plan is being developed to try and meet these guidelines while still providing lunch including possibly hiring additional staff for supervision or purchasing supplementary cafeteria equipment, tables, chairs, and tents.
"If the CDC and NJDOH guidance continues to relax recommendations, we will be able to open schools with even fewer restrictions and modifications. Even if the guidance remains the same, we are still planning to be open 5 full days a week in September," said Ficarra.
