Overturned Car Sends Woman To Hospital In Route 22 Crash

A Hillsborough woman was pulled from the overturned car near the Bridgewater Diner on Thursday morning.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A woman was pulled from an overturned car and hospitalized following a crash on Route 22 near the Bridgewater Diner Thursday, police said.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Irene Muigai, 20, of Hillsborough, was driving a black Honda Civic west on Route 22 when the car left the roadway and crashed into a telephone pole causing the vehicle to overturn, Bridgewater Police Lt. Thomas Rice said.

Muigai was pulled from the car and taken to Robert Wood Johnson, New Brunswick for her injuries, Rice said.

Finderne Fire Department, Green Knoll Fire Department, North Branch Fire Department and Robert Wood Johnson Mobile Intensive Care Unit (M.I.C.U.) all came out to the scene.

The crash is currently under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Traffic Safety Officer Joseph Greco at 908-722-4111 ext. 4186.

As a result of the crash, police closed lanes on the highway and sent out a traffic alert around 11 a.m. The roadway has since reopened.
