Early Closure, Delayed Opening For Raritan Valley College Due To Storm
A state of emergency was issued ahead of the winter storm moving into Somerset County.

BRANCHBURG, NJ ? Raritan Valley Community College closed early at 2 p.m. and will have a delayed opening on Wednesday due to the severe storm.
"Due to a significant impending rain event with expected flooding, RVCC will close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and will reopen at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10," said the college.
A state of emergency issued by Gov. Phil Murphy takes effect at 5 p.m. as the storm is forecast to bring high winds and heavy rain leading to flooding in Somerset County.

Some rivers in Central Jersey such as the Raritan River and Millstone River will hit "moderate" flood levels. Read More: These NJ Rivers Expected To Have Major Flooding As Storm Arrives
Moderate flooding is defined by the NWS as "some inundation of structures and roads near stream. Some evacuations of people and/or transfer of property to higher elevations."

The Raritan River in Manville and the Raritan River in Bound Brook are both expected to hit the moderate flood stage: The river in Manville will rise to 17.8 feet by Wednesday afternoon, and the river in Bound Brook will rise to 31.8 feet by noon on Wednesday.
The Millstone River at Blackwells Mills will also rise to "moderate" flood levels at 12.6 feet by Wednesday.
Somerset County also issued an alert asking residents to "avoid all unnecessary travel and adhere to all road closures if you must travel."
