Ellen Parker Is A Wonderful Volunteer: Bridgewater Hero

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Lisa Darby who is nominating Ellen Parker of Bridgewater.

Name: Ellen Parker

Home town: Bridgewater

Hero's job: Somerset County 4-H volunteer.

Reason for recognition: During COVID-19, she learned how to flip her theater club from an in-person to a virtual platform where she continues to deliver meaningful and fun club meetings. This has allowed the kids to still feel a sense of belonging and continuity.

One thing to know: During the height of the pandemic, Ellen started a Facebook page called "The Don't-Panic Poetry Project" where she and her family read poetry. Ellen has created a space online that offers listeners moments of calm amidst the panic.
