Former Bridgewater Resident, Officer To Be Remembered

A memorial service will take place for Kaitlin Cowley, a former probation and parole agent, Saturday at 3 p.m. in Maplewood, NJ.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Considered a "Jersey girl at heart" by family and friends, a memorial service will take place Saturday to honor former Bridgewater resident and probation officer, Kaitlin Marie Cowley.

Cowley was killed in a single vehicle crash in Baton Rouge on April 20, 2020. The crash occurred after she left an assignment assisting the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women with inmate security at the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, causing her to suffer fatal injuries, the Officer Down Memorial page reported.

Cowley was just 33-years-old. She had served with the Louisiana Department of Corrections for three years and had previously served with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission for two years.

Cowley lived in North Plainfield until he age of five when her parents moved to Bridgewater where she spent her childhood. She ultimately moved to Louisiana to be with the love of her life.

She is survived by her husband, parents and brother.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at 3 p.m. at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 767 Prospect St. in Maplewood.

According to her obituary, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Louisiana Chapter of COPS, P.O. Box 4143, Baton Rouge, LA 70835 or Garden State COPS, P.O. Box 322, Beachwood, NJ 08722.
