Heat Advisory Issued For Somerset County Through Wednesday Night

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Somerset County through Wednesday night due to hot temperatures and high humidity.

Residents can expect mostly sunny skies and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. on Monday. Temperatures are expected near 95 degrees with heat index values up to 104, according to the NWS.

On Tuesday, it will be another sunny and hot day with a high near 97 degrees and a heat index as high as 106. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk and should stay indoors with air conditioning.

For those working outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Monday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 106. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: A chance of showers, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 p.m. High near 90. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3 a.m., then a chance of showers. Low around 67. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.

Friday: Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9 p.m., then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
