I-78 Lane Closures Begin Friday For Bridge Replacement Project

The project is replacing 4 bridges on I-78 that go over Route 202/Route 206 and Washington Valley Road in Bridgewater and Bedminster.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Lane closures on I-78 will begin Friday as work to replace four bridges in Bridgewater and Bedminster progresses, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced.

The right lane and shoulder of I-78 eastbound in the area of the bridges will be closed on Friday at 8 p.m. to prepare for a traffic shift. The center lane is scheduled be closed at 10 p.m. for roadway restriping. By Saturday at 6 a.m., the center lane will be reopened and traffic will be shifted to the left into the shoulder, NJDOT officials stated.

Then on Saturday at 8 p.m., the right lane and shoulder of I-78 westbound will be closed to prepare for a traffic shift. The center lane will be closed at 10 p.m. for roadway restriping. By Sunday at 6 a.m. the center lane will be reopened and traffic will be shifted to the left into the shoulder, NJDOT officials stated.

Temporary bridges and roadways will be built between the eastbound and westbound lanes to maintain traffic during construction. This phase of construction is anticipated to be complete by spring 2020.

The $27.9 million federally-funded project includes bridges on I-78 east and west run over Route 202/Route 206 and Washington Valley Road, which are in poor condition and need to be replaced. The project will replace the bridges in stages.
