​Jackknifed Tractor-Trailer Closes Lanes On I-287 In Bridgewater

Two of the four lanes on the northbound side of I-287 are closed in Bridgewater, according to state officials.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A jackknifed tractor-trailer has caused lane closures on Interstate 287 north in Bridgewater, according to state officials.

511NJ.org reported the crash just south of Exit 14 for Route 22 in Bridgewater Township. As a result, two center lanes of the four lanes are closed as of 2:32 p.m.

Another crash was also reported in Bedminster where all lanes and exit 29 on Interstate 78 westbound are closed because of a truck stuck in the snow, according to state officials. 511NJ.org reported the closure at 2:13 p.m. Monday.

Somerset County has most likely been hit the hardest than anywhere in New Jersey. The National Weather Service has reported 19 inches in Bridgewater, 17.5 in Somerville and 17 in Branchburg as of Monday afternoon.

Somerset County residents are being asked to stay off the roadways.

"For their own safety and that of our great road crews and first responders, we are asking Somerset County residents to limit traveling on the roads during this winter storm unless absolutely necessary," said Somerset County Commissioner Doug Singleterry, liaison to Public Health and Safety. "Please check on neighbors who may need assistance, though we ask that everyone continue to practice COVID safety measures when you do so."
