Petition Opposes 3-Story Apartment Building On Bridgewater Border

Concerned residents are upset over a three-story, 40-unit apartment building being proposed at the Venue 518 property off Vosseller Avenue.

The property functioned as a restaurant, catering and banquet facility since the 1950s operating as Patullo’s Restaurant, Madeline’s and most recently Venue 518.

BOUND BROOK, NJ — More than 500 locals have signed a petition in opposition to a proposed three-story, 40-unit apartment building slated to be built on the Bridgewater border.

"Bound Brook is already oversaturated with large development projects — specifically apartment complexes — that put a drain on infrastructure, congest traffic, and limit opportunities for new families or businesses to become long-term investors in our community," said Eddie Kantis, who created a petition to stop the apartment development.

The applicant for the project, Ferruggia Associates LLC of Watchung, is looking to demolish all existing structures at the property at 518 Vosseller Avenue in Bound Brook on the border of Bridgewater. The property functioned as a restaurant, catering and banquet facility since the 1950s operating as Patullo’s Restaurant, Madeline’s and most recently Venue 518.

The new project, to be called Allure at Vosseller, will include a mix of studio, 24, one-bedroom units and 15, three-bedroom units. With the exception of the studio apartment, each apartment will have access to private patio or balcony.

Among the waivers the applicant is proposing includes reducing the setback to neighboring homes from 15 feet to 2 feet.

"It is clear they have given little consideration to the effects this complex will have on the area and the permanent residents who live here," said Kantis of the waivers.

Since launching the petition in opposition to the project one week ago, more than 500 people have signed it.

"I'm tired of the over-development in this historic town. Why not focus on bringing interesting shops back into town!" signed a resident.

"This intersection is one of the most dangerous in bound brook. children also use these roads to go to school and home. put the people of bound brook first not someone's pocket," said another signer.

"My family grew up in this neighborhood, my father and grandfather still live there. There are already enough apartments in the town and surrounding areas, it would be abhorrent to build another complex on the sweet residential corner," said another signer.

The application is slated to be heard before the Bound Brook Planning and Zoning Board on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
