Man Walking In Crosswalk Hit By Car, Killed In Bound Brook

BOUND BROOK, NJ — Authorities are investigating a serious car crash where a pedestrian walking in a marked crosswalk across Route 28 in Bound Brook was hit and killed early Friday morning.

At around 5:40 a.m. a 66-year-old Bound Brook man was walking southbound and crossing W. Union Avenue (Route 28) at the intersection of Tea Street in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle going westbound on W. Union Avenue, Bound Brook Police said.

The woman driver immediately pulled over and remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with law enforcement, police said.

The borough resident was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson Somerset after being taken from the scene by the Bound Brook Rescue Squad, police said.

He has not been identified as next of kin notification is pending.

As a result of the crash and police investigation, Route 28 was closed from I-287 in Bridgewater to Tea Street in Bound Brook for a few hours.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Officer Gerry Flanagan or Det. Tony Munoz of the Bound Brook Police Dept. at 732-356-0800.
