Outages Climb To 1,500 In Bridgewater Following Storms

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The number of Bridgewater residents without power on Monday climbed to about 1,500 following another severe thunderstorm.

More than 800 residents were already waking up to no power on Monday, according to PSE&G and JCP&L.

Now the tally is up to 1,500 after another severe thunderstorm rolled through the area on Monday night around 7 p.m.

The storms brought lightning, high winds, heavy rain and hail. Multiple roads also remain closed due to downed trees, limbs and power lines in the Martinsville area.

Roads closures on Sunday night included: Newmans Lane from Washington Valley Road to Mountain Top Road; Chimney Rock Road; Mine Road; Gilbride Road; Vosseller Avenue; North Bridge Street and Grove Street.

Residents in Watchung, Bound Brook, Franklin, Hillsborough, Somerville, South Bound Brook, and Warren also remain without power.

PSE&G estimates power could be restored the earliest by 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22 or the latest by 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday. JCP&L expects power to come back by 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

"Our township crews are out assessing storm damage and working hard to clear public roadways. Trees downed on private property can be taken to the yard waste site that is open regular hours. If you have a service removing trees from your property that were damaged in the storm they may take the materials to the yard waste site also," Bridgewater Township announced.

A flood watch is in effect for the area until Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday: Showers, mainly before 2 p.m. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 81. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 83. North wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Light northwest wind.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 87.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.
