Somerset County Continues With Free COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics
More than 201,000 county residents have been fully vaccinated, but some areas of the county are under the 71 percent mark, officials said.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — With 76 percent of Somerset County’s adult population fully vaccinated and 71 percent of county residents ages 12 and up having received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccines, local health officials are continuing to stress the need for those percentages to continue to grow in certain areas by offering free vaccination sites around the county.
More than 201,000 county residents have received both shots, according to data from the New Jersey Department of Health. While local health officers are pleased with progress that has made across Somerset County as a whole, they said that there is work yet to be done in some communities.
“This is great news for everyone that we have surpassed our initial vaccination goals well before the Independence Day target, and it’s a testament to the partnership between the state, county, municipalities, and private vaccine providers that we reached this milestone,” Somerset County Commissioner Director Shanel Y. Robinson said in a news release last week.

“We are well on our way to returning to a more normal way of life, but there is still more work to do and many more people to vaccinate in communities that haven’t yet reached the 70 percent goal.”
U.S. Census numbers indicate that there are a total of 282,443 Somerset County residents ages 12 and up that are eligible to receive the vaccines. To reach the goal of getting more residents vaccinated, several sites have set up vaccination clinics where residents can either receive the Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines.

Somerset County has worked hard to vaccinate its residents, whether at one of our clinics or a pharmacy or other provider, and will continue to do so because the key to ending this pandemic is having high percentages of residents vaccinated,” Dr. Namitha Ready, Somerset County’s health director said in a news release. “We are transitioning our focus now to communities with lower vaccination rates, students and teenagers, and high-traffic areas to continue raising our vaccination numbers.”
