Somerset Patriots Continue Win Streak

The Somerset Patriots defeated the New Jersey Blasters on Saturday to extend their four game win streak.

The Somerset Patriots (6-4) defeated the New Jersey Blasters (4-6) by a score of 7-4 to extend their win streak to four games in Saturday's tenth matchup of the Somerset Professional Baseball Series.

The Blasters came out swinging in the top of the first as Martin Figueroa plated a run with a double, and Tommy McCarthy followed with a groundout which scored one.

The Patriots jumped ahead with three runs in the second via RBI’s from Connor Justus, Sean Guida, and Jordan Jackson.

Shayne Fontana continued his hot streak with an RBI triple, followed by a Joey Rose sac fly in the third. RBI base hits by Jackson and Scott Kelly in the fourth extended the Patriots lead to 7-2.

The Blasters tacked on two more with an RBI single by Mark Shenloogian in the sixth, and a Figueroa RBI double in the seventh, but would fall 7-4.

Mark Leiter Jr. (1-1) earned the win, holding the Blasters to only two runs on two hits over five innings while striking out seven batters. Alex Vargas (0-3) suffered the loss.

The Somerset Professional Baseball Series presented by Ford will continue on Thursday, August 20th with a 7:05 pm game between the Somerset Patriots and the New Jersey Blasters at TD Bank Ballpark. Three games next weekend will round out the 2020 season, and the winner of the matchup will receive the Joe Torre Championship Trophy.
