South Bound Brook Mom Found Guilty Of Fatally Stabbing 4-Year-Old Son

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, NJ ? A South Bound Brook mother, who fatally stabbed her 4-year-old son more than 17 times in the neck in 2021 was found guilty on Tuesday, announced Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Somerset County Prosecutor?s Office Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr.

Elina Gutti, 38, of South Bound Brook, was found guilty of murder in the first-degree for the criminal homicide death of her son. She faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without eligibility for parole which will be served in a maximum-security prison.

On Feb.6, 2021, at around 2:28 a.m.Somerset County Communications got a 911 call for help from Gutti.

Gutti reported that she had woken up to find her wrist cut and was uncertain as to the cause of her injuries.

South Bound Brook Patrol Officers went to the scene and determined that Gutti's injuries were minor and did not require immediate medical attention.

During the investigation into the cause of Gutti's injuries, the patrol officers found Gutti?s four-year-old son, dead, inside Gutti?s bedroom with what was determined to be over 17 incised wounds to his neck area, said McDonald.

A kitchen knife found on the floor of Gutti?s bedroom was determined to be the murder weapon, aid McDonald.

Detectives from Somerset County Prosecutor?s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigation Unit came to help with the homicide investigation.

The New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner?s Office conducted a post-mortem examination which determined the cause of the victim?s death to be the result of multiple incised wounds to his neck area and the manner of death to be homicide.

Gutti received a bench trial during the weeks of Dec. 4, 2023, and Dec. 11, 2023, before the Judge Julie M. Marino.

On Dec. 19, 2023, Marino found Gutti guilty of all three counts of murder in the first-degree (with the aggravating factor that Gutti committed the murder by her own conduct to a victim under the age of 14) and two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
