Student Says Everyone Can Stop Hunger
Hillside student speaks out about the issue in New Jersey.

To the Editor:
Have you ever felt hungry? Or felt your stomach grumble? Some people feel that way every single day. There are people throughout New Jersey who aren’t able to eat three meals a day, everyday.
Hunger is an important problem, but not impossible to solve. Every citizen in New Jersey has a responsibility to help people in need and to donate food to people who don't have any. Without money, your health could be at risk and you can get sick, or even die. Basically, once one person starts donating, everyone will follow their lead. This could be a very easy problem to solve, but not everyone is pitching in and doing their part.

When people have no food to eat, their own health can be at risk and people aren’t getting enough energy to make it through the day. Without food, people can’t do a lot of activities that families with food can do. If people don’t eat their normal three meals a day, they don’t get enough vitamins that people should normally be getting. If people do not get enough vitamins, their body won’t grow. If people don’t eat enough food, they could become malnourished and that could make them sick, or even die. With no food, people aren’t getting any nutrients for their bodies to stay healthy. Food is a very important element in people's lives. If people are not getting enough food, it could be affecting their everyday lives.
Some people don’t have a lot of money, so they can’t buy enough food for their families. There are about 2 million people in New Jersey who are living in food insecure houses. Also, there are about 625,000 people who need to use the food stamp program in New Jersey.

There are some people out there that don’t even have enough money to buy a house—how are they supposed to buy food if they don’t have any money? A lot of people realize this problem, but not a lot of people are doing as much as they can. Don’t be one of those people; there are many ways that you can help out. Don’t just watch it happen, pitch in.
Everybody has a responsibility to help someone in need. People are getting to be half-starved, and some are even dying. There are many ways that people can help. People can spend time working at a local food drive or food bank. Also people can help serve soup at a local food kitchen. Another option is to try to get restaurants and other establishments to donate their extra food to people who have no food at all. But if people don’t have enough time to help out, you can also donate to a food drive or food bank. Or people can donate online. When people donate online they give five meals to a family. There are many ways that people can help fight hunger. Any donations will help.
Hunger is an important problem, but not impossible to solve. Every citizen in New Jersey has a responsibility to help someone in need and to donate food to people who don’t have any. Without food, your health could be at risk, you can get sick or even die. When you get the chance, donate something because every little thing helps. This problem is terrifying, but definitely will be stopped.
Sincerely,
