Tips for Handling Food on the Go

A fail-proof crockpot recipe and a backup list of restaurants offering free or cheap kids meals.

Since school is in session, evenings can be a mad dash for dinner, especially if your kids are engaged in fall sports.

My first recommendation is to get a crockpot. I have been trying some new recipes lately and really liked this apricot chicken—five ingredients and it tasted great.

  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion flakes
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 4 frozen chicken breasts or equivalent amount of frozen chicken tenders [if not frozen, reduce cooking time]

Place all ingredients in crockpot and stir, then set for 6-8 hours on low. I served it with rice and steamed broccoli.

No prep time at all?

Sometimes, things are so desperate there’s not enough time to do the crockpot. I’m right there with you.

There used to be tons of kids meal deals and you would think with the economy being what it is, a lure like this would easily pay for itself by getting more parents out to eat [hint hint restaurants]. However, in my survey of restaurants in the Bridgewater area, there are not so many free [or nearly free] kids dinners to be had.

However, with some persistence, I was able to find you a free dinner for the kids in and around Bridgewater every night of the week. You still have to buy something—namely a meal for yourself.

Here are your kids meal deals. If you know of others, post them in the comments.
