Wegmans In Bridgewater To Pause Johnson & Johnson COVID Vaccine

The grocery store located off Route 202 is canceling all Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine appointments following blood-clot concerns.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ —Wegmans in Bridgewater is canceling all Johnson & Johnson vaccine appointments after blood-clot concerns.

The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.

"We will pause use of the J&J vaccine while the CDC & FDA further investigate the issue," said Marcie Rivera, a spokeswoman with Wegmans.

CVS stores have also said they "are immediately implementing a pause in the use of the Johnson and Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine per the recommendation from federal health agencies."

Somerset County Department of Health who also uses the J&J vaccine is expected to issue a statement later in the day Tuesday about their plans.

The FDA reported that, as of Monday, more than 6.8 million doses of New Brunswick-based company's vaccine have been administered in the U.S. The CDC and FDA are reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the vaccine. The news comes after reports of a New Jersey man who became very sick with COVID-19 weeks after getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
