Cinnaminson Cancels Memorial Day Service Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Cinnaminson is canceling its Memorial Day services, but plans to have an event for the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — For the second straight year, Cinnaminson has canceled its Memorial Day service amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to township officials.

“After careful consideration, the township is not hosting a Memorial Day event this year,” Cinnaminson Township Administrator Eric Schubiger told Patch.

The cancellation comes as the state continues to reopen, but the coronavirus pandemic continues to be an issue.

Gov. Phil Murphy recently announced that capacity limits on outdoor gatherings – meaning, parties and events – will be removed starting May 19.

All attendees or groups at these events will be required to keep social distances of at least 6 feet. Current mask requirements remain.

The state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report" lists the entire state as being in the “yellow zone,” meaning each county, including Burlington, has a rate of 1 to 10 cases per 100,000 people.

The Burlington County Department of Health released its updated case numbers on Monday, reporting just 12 new cases since last week, none of which were in Cinnaminson.

However, a new map launched this week by the New Jersey Department of Health shows that just 47 percent of Cinnaminson residents have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Township officials are looking to get back to normal by the fall, though.

Said Schubiger: “We are in the planning stages of coordinating an event which will commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11.”
