Construction On Cinnaminson Lidl May Begin In September: Mayor
Lidl is targeting September for the beginning of site work and construction on its Cinnaminson store, Mayor Ryan Horner said this week.
CINNAMINSON, NJ — Construction on a new Lidl grocery store in Cinnaminson is expected to begin in September, Cinnaminson Mayor Ryan Horner said this week.
“Township officials yesterday had a very productive conference call with the principals associated with the project to discuss a number of details in order to formalize all required commitments and agreements,” Horner told Patch on Wednesday. “The Lidl leadership team is targeting the end of September for the beginning of site work and construction.”
The German grocery store giant has targeted the former Garden State Inn at the intersection of Route 130 South and Highland Avenue as the spot for its new store. “The Lidl project represents another example of the township’s business attractiveness and economic vitality,” Horner said. “It brings with it several benefits to our community, including a proven leader in the grocery market, a sustainable tax ratable and additional local employment opportunities. In addition, the Lidl project is the cornerstone for other development on the adjacent acreage, which includes a planned senior housing project. We look forward to a very positive business relationship with Lidl and the continued improvement to our Route 130 business corridor.”
Two years ago, Lidl turned its attention to building stores in the United States, with an eye toward the east coast. This week, it was reported that Lidl is also considering a store on the Black Horse Pike in Gloucester Township. It already has stores in Cherry Hill and Burlington.

The chain, known for its rock bottom prices, already has more than 10,000 stores in 26 European countries, according to the report. It is considered to be a cross between Walmart and Trader Joe's. For more on the chain, visit lidl.com.
