Fire Truck Struck Cinnaminson Woman In Haddonfield: Police

HADDONFIELD, NJ — A 46-year-old Cinnaminson woman was struck by a Haddonfield Borough fire truck while crossing Kings Highway East on foot Sunday night, according to Haddonfield police.

The fire truck was turning onto Kings Highway from Haddon Avenue just after 8 p.m. when it struck the woman, police said. It was not responding to an emergency at the time, police said.

The woman, who has not been identified by police, was taken to the Trauma Center at Cooper University Hospital with serious injuries, police said. Her condition was unknown early Monday afternoon.

Fire department units were detailed to a community service assignment to recognize the Haddonfield Memorial High School boys swim team's state championship at the time of the accident, the fire department said in a statement Monday afternoon.

"Due to the accident, our priority immediately shifted to the care and transport of the pedestrian and those involved," the fire department said.

Because they were in the middle of a community service assignment, the fire trucks didn't have their sirens on, according to Haddonfield Commissioner of Public Affairs and Public Safety Colleen Bianco Bezich.

"I'm heartbroken for the woman, and I'm heartbroken for our firefighters," Bezich said. "They're used to responding to emergencies, not being involved in them."

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigation into the crash.
