Here's What To Expect In Cinnaminson As High School Sports Begin

There will be a limited number of fans permitted at this year's high school athletic events, with 300 home tickets allotted for football.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — With the high school sports season getting underway this week amid the coronavirus pandemic, things will look a little different on the field and in the stands.

“This season will be discussed and talked about for years to come and it will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on our athletes and musicians,” Athletic Director Jay Meile said in a letter to the school community that was provided to Patch. “As you could predict, this season will be unique in terms of COVID-19 policies and guidelines. I wanted to update all of you on some items for the upcoming season.”

All athletic contests will be limited to 500 spectators, and the state mandates that 40 percent of tickets will be allocated to the visiting team. All opposing teams will be given 200 tickets which allows for 300 tickets for the Cinnaminson parents and immediate family members.

For road games, each school will determine their ticket allotment, and coaches will communicate what the allotment will be the week of each game.

The following changes will also be in effect for the 2020 season:

  • there will be no internal building access for this season;
  • portable restrooms will be set up in the stadium, and all spectators will have access to them;
  • no concessions will be sold at games; and
  • there will be no tailgating in the parking lot before or after the games.

Attendance for soccer, field hockey, cross country and tennis will be limited to immediate family members. Spectators should bring their own chairs, as bleachers may not be available for all events. To view the schedules for this week, visit burlingtoncountyscholasticleague.org.

The football team is scheduled to open the season Friday night at home against rival Delran. Delran shut down its football program temporarily last week after one person at the high school and two people at Delran Intermediate Schools tested positive for the coronavirus, according to 6 ABC. That shutdown was to be in effect until Sept. 29.

As of Monday morning, the game is still on, Meile said.

It is scheduled to be the first of six games Cinnaminson will play this season. The team returns nine two-way starters from last year’s team and has a strong senior class, according to nj.com.

The state will not host playoffs for football, but any team that wants to participate in a postseason will have the chance to do so via four-team postseason “groupings,” according to nj.com.
