Riverton’s Treasure Day tradition resumes May 8
With safety guidance and pent-up supply/demand

After a year off, homeowners and community groups in Riverton, Burlington County, will welcome bargain-hunting visitors May 8 for the annual Treasure Day. In 2021, the town-wide yard sale is expected to provide an outlet for all the cleaning people did during the pandemic, and a venue for outdoor activity with a purpose.
This string of yard sales, bakes sales and other profitable activities typically draws residents from the area and from afar. They walk the streets of this Victorian-era borough soaking up the neighborly atmosphere while searching for deals.
Treasure Day is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8. Organizers have set a backup date of May 15 in case of rain, although individual homeowners may choose to proceed no matter the weather. Organizers also strongly suggest that sellers provide hand sanitizer for shoppers, and that shoppers wear face masks.

Riverton residents and community groups – like churches and teen clubs – participate in Treasure Day by paying a $10 nonrefundable fee. That gets them a packet including borough maps marked with sale spots and a sign proclaiming their address a “Treasure Day Home.”
Each year the compact, one-square-mile borough usually boasts more than 160 Treasure Day sites.

Proceeds benefit the Fourth of July festivities that attract residents, past residents, and residents of surrounding communities. The Riverton Fourth of July Committee runs Treasure Day as a fund-raiser, and is planning 2021 events within public health guidelines.
