'UFO Detector' Dismantled In Wharton State Park: Police

TABERNACLE TOWNSHIP, NJ — An attempt to detect aliens among us was recently thwarted by New Jersey State Park Police.

Perhaps motivated by Patch’s recent report detailing UFO sightings in the Garden State, a device police referred to as a“UFO Detector Site” was recently set up in Wharton State Forest, New Jersey State Park Police announced.

The device consisted of a headphone wire connecting a block of wood and a soup can, police said. An examination of the device by Explosive Detecting K-9 “Prime” determined that the device was safe, police said. Police said they then disarmed the device by disconnecting the wire.

It’s unknown who set up the device or when it was set up, but there was a UFO sighting in Wharton State Forest on Oct. 20, when someone reported seeing "4 circular lights moving back n forth and up and down stationary, 5th object was much larger and wider also moving side to side than slowly moving out of sight," according to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC). “Although humankind and the visitors to New Jersey’s State Parks appreciate an extra-terrestrial early warning device like this, we should not be finding them in our State Parks,” police said. “Please always be safe when around suspicious objects like this and always notify the NJ State Park Police (1-877-WARN-DEP) if a suspicious object is found in our State Parks.”
