Arrest In Metuchen BLM Sign Theft

For the past couple of months, Black Lives Matter signs were being stolen off residential properties in the borough.

METUCHEN, NJ — Metuchen police said Friday that they arrested a person for stealing a sign from a resident’s lawn.

No information was given about the person, who was arrested on Wednesday.

For the past couple of months, borough residents complained of “Black Lives Matter” signs being stolen off residential properties, Mayor Jonathan Busch said in a Facebook post.

“Thanks to an attentive resident who recognized the truck from a video, Metuchen Police was able to arrest the individual responsible for taking the sign from another resident’s lawn,” police said in a statement.

Busch said that stealing the signs was “disappointing” and praised the police for their work.

“No matter what your sign says, we know how important it is to some residents that they be able to express themselves and our Police Department is here for everyone,” he said.
