Car Stuck On Edison Train Tracks Causes NJT Delays
It's not every day you see a car wedged under a train station platform, but that was exactly what happened on Wednesday.
EDISON, NJ — New Jersey Transit commuters are used to all types of delays: mechanical problems, engineer availability, a stuck train... but what happened on Wednesday morning at the Edison station might be a new one.
Photos from delayed commuters showed a car that apparently drove under the station platform before getting stuck on one of the train tracks. The front end of the car is banged up, and a train is waiting patiently in the background.
The driver, who was dropping someone off at the train station, told police that his car "accelerated abruptly" when he tried to turn out of the lot, Edison Deputy Fire Chief Andy Toth said. The driver crashed through a chain-link fence and went under the platform, where the car got stuck partially on the tracks.

Although quite shaken, the driver was not injured, Toth said. New Jersey Transit has not yet responded to Patch's request for more information.
The impact was felt by commuters immediately. Service along the busy North East Corridor faces delays of at least 30 minutes, with one train being delayed over an hour.

Riders complained about more than just delays, though, with one saying her train was forced to backtrack as a result of the incident.
Are you going to do something about the 6:59 train that had to back up PASS New Brunswick to switch tracks and we’re still waiting for a signal, while MULTIPLE trains have passed us on the left ?!

Riders at Metropark and New Brusnwick complained of overcrowded platforms and a lack of communication about what was going on (tweets from New Jersey Transit just cited "police activity" in causing the delay, while passengers shared photos of the stuck car).
Really - this is the result of a 30 minute delay? That MetroPark is full beyond capacity pic.twitter.com/rGxwRb2j3m
