Edison Artists To Showcase Work At Town Hall
The artists, all of whom have special needs, will see their work showcased next week.
From Edison Township: The artistic works of more than 30 people with disabilities will be unveiled Wednesday, Oct. 10th at the Edison Municipal Complex at a distinctive exhibit that Mayor Thomas Lankey and the Edison Arts Society are presenting.
The “Our Perspective Art Exhibit” is a mixed-media presentation of oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, pencil sketches, photography and sculptures that artists with developmental disabilities from the Edison–Middlesex County area have created, said Edison Arts Society president Gloria Dittman. “I am especially proud of this new exhibit because it highlights the incredible creativity of people, including many students, who rarely have an opportunity to showcase their talents and deserve to have their work appreciated,” said Mayor Lankey, noting that exhibits will remain on display until November. The exhibit opens at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10th at the Municipal Complex’s third floor Edison Art Society gallery. J.P. Stevens High School student Vincent Chen, a keyboard musician with disabilities, will perform during the opening. The public and news media are welcome.
“This exhibit is significant because it represents a one-of-a-kind collaboration between schools and organizations that serve our disabilities community,” said Lankey, whose Administration is committed to providing new opportunities for disabled residents, either through employment at Town Hall’s “Snack Shack” or by enabling artistic expression. The exhibit includes creations by artists with developmental disabilities from the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities, Edison Public Schools, Triple C Housing, and the Middlesex County ARC.

“Each of these local organizations offered such swift, enthusiastic support for our upcoming exhibit that we hope to make this an annual event highlighting the work of artists with disabilities and their unique perspective,” Dittman said.
