Edison COVID Vaccine Mega-Site To Close July

The site will administer its final round of vaccines on June 26. The last of the second doses will be administered on July 17.

EDISON, NJ — After administering more than 300,000 vaccines in the span of six months, the COVID-19 Vaccine mega-site in Edison will shut down, RWJBarnabas Health announced Friday.

The site will administer its final round of vaccines on June 26 and the last second doses will be administered on July 17.

The site is run by RWJBarnabas Health, the Army National Guard, Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Middlesex County.

“We are proud to have helped so many residents protect themselves, their families, and others from the virus and remain committed to helping New Jersey reach their 70 percent vaccination goal,” said Bonnie Geissler, MHA, RN, Vice President, Special Projects, RWJBarnabas Health.

“We appreciate everyone who worked to make the site a success from our medical staff to our volunteers and every resident who rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated.”

Last week Gov. Phil Murphy announced that the state will close its six COVID-19 vaccination mega-sites over the course of the next month.

"We're going on the offense, and we're bringing the vaccine to the people," Murphy said.

"We're localizing our efforts. Every New Jerseyan who wants to be vaccinated will be. That's our promise. That's our goal."

Although the mega-site is set to close, Middlesex County is operating a mobile COVID-19 vaccine unit, that conducts pop-up vaccine clinics across the county.

As of Friday, nearly 4.5 million people have been fully vaccinated in New Jersey.
