Edison Police Mourn Loss Of Officer Who Passed Away Unexpectedly

Officer Ryan Borden, 26, lived in East Windsor with his mother. Edison PBA 75 is raising funds to cover his funeral expenses.

EDISON, NJ — The Edison Police Department is mourning the loss of officer Ryan Borden.

The 26-year-old passed away unexpectedly at home on March 16. The Edison PBA 75 have started a GoFundMe to cover Borden’s funeral expenses.

A resident of East Windsor, Borden graduated from Hightstown High School in 2012. At his hometown, he coached youth basketball for many years, and was a volunteer at the New Jersey Youth Center in Camden, said the GoFundMe.

“We are still in shock over the death of one of our newest brothers,” the department said in the GoFundMe. They described Borden as someone who “always had a smile” on his face, and who “was so excited to be an Edison police officer.”

“You were always willing to help out anybody. We will miss you dearly.”

Before joining the Edison police department in October last year, Borden was employed as a Rutgers University- Camden Campus police officer.

The Rutgers Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 62 posted a Facebook tribute to Borden.

The GoFundMe was created four days ago, with the goal to reach $50,000. As of Tuesday, more than $34,000 was raised. According to the police, Borden lived with his mother and was the sole provider of the household.

The police department said that any extra money from the fundraiser will be given to Borden’s mother.
